Under the directorship of Sandra Balestracci, students enrolled in EVSPA’s Classical Ballet Program follow a curriculum which progresses from"pre-ballet" training through advanced levels in the classical pursuit. Pre-Ballet (ages 6-7) is a prelude to formal classical ballet instruction and introduces children to music and basic ballet skills through a structured program that stresses creativity and group interaction.
Classical Ballet (ages 7 and up) students are then introduced to progressive levels of ballet technique as they are promoted according to individual progress in acquiring technique and strength. Classes consist of a Russian syllabus (based on Vaganova method) in ballet technique, vocabulary, pointe, history, and variations from the classical repertoire. Classical Ballet classes are organized into levels ensuring each student’s maximum mastery of skills.
The Classical Ballet Program courses are:
Ballet II (ages 7-9)
Ballet II/III (ages 7-11)
Ballet III/IV (ages 8-12)
Ballet IV, IV/V, V with pointe (ages 11 and up)
Modern Dance classes teach a combination of techniques based on the styles of Cunningham, Taylor and Horton. They are designed to explore movement and develop self-expression which are an integral part of this curriculum. Students dance barefoot and learn the fundamentals of technique designed to increase flexibility and strength and to develop rhythmic sensitivity.
