The School
The Eastern Virginia School for the Performing Arts was established to benefit the children
and youth on the peninsula with the quality in performing arts training usually found in major metropolitan cities.
It began as an outgrowth of the ballet studio started with 75 students by Sandra Balestracci in 1983.
In 1992, Ron Boucher joined Ms. Balestracci adding his own expertise in theatre
and voice. EVSPA is recognized nationally as a major performing arts training facility specializing in Classical Ballet
and Musical Theatre which includes Voice, Jazz, and Tap as relating to Broadway musicals.
To accomodate these changes and the enormous increase in enrollment, the school
moved into over 6000 square feet of office and studio space at The Village Shops at Kingsmill.
In 1996 the ballet school was renamed "The Eastern
Virginia School for the Performing Arts."
Our students commute from all over the Peninsula as well as from South Hampton Roads.
It was inevitable that the studio would expand again to accomodate additional enrollment.
In Fall 2005 our new 5000 square feet location in the Port Warwick area of Newport News was opened. Our expansion into the Newport News area demonstrates our desire to bring affordable and convenient training in the arts to the communities we serve.
Our goal remains to develop a school that provides definitive training in the performing arts that is career oriented and developmental
in nature. We are striving to raise the bar on excellence in performing arts education
while providing a safe environment that fosters achievement at the highest levels.
We hope to serve your family for many years to come.
