An Open Discussion of the Teaching of the Art of Classical Ballet
It's fall registration time and with that comes an influx of new students for an evaluation. I still have difficulty witnessing the amount of poor training that students receive. How do you tell a young dancer who has been studying for numerous years that they haven't been given the right information at the proper time of their development? How do you watch a young dancer's eyes realize when they see a class with their peers and realize how much they must learn? It has been my experience that only 2 out of 10 students who come to this realization, have the drive, determination and well placed ego to make the change and give it the best shot they have. It is those students that inspire me to teach and make sure that I have the right information to fix their technique which hopefully can contribute to making their dreams come true.
